Tenancy Support

Most of us have been very fortunate in life. We have grown up in stable happy family environments, had average educations, found financially rewarding jobs, set up home, maybe got a mortgage and, even without knowing it, developed social skills to cope with everyday life ……

What if you were not given, were not shown/taught, did not have the mental capacity to ask for help, or life just dealt you a bad hand …… and, on top of all this, you are just about to sign a tenancy agreement for your FIRST ever home! Scary hey …… a big decision for anyone.

Well, this is where the Friary's Tenancy Support Team comes in: to offer as much support and advice as needed. This can be anything from benefits advice, to fetching and carrying the week’s shopping, showing people how and where to pay bills. These are all things I guess we all take for granted at times, even me .... Because remember that some people, for whatever reason, just haven't been given the chances which we have.

An Individual Support Plan is maintained for every user, which covers a wide range of issues, including:

  • Budgeting and debt counselling
  • Benefit claims
  • Conflict resolution (e.g. neighbourhood disputes)
  • Life skills, including food preparation and storage
  • Minor DIY and repairs
  • Resettlement advice
  • Organising access to professional help
  • Maintaining family links
  • Home security
  • Contacting trades people and arranging access for repairs or servicing of appliances
  • Befriending, i.e. general counselling and support.

“ I have had two years support from the Tenancy workers – I’ve been helped by Friary, on and off, for over 16 years or more. Friary has changed my whole outlook for the better. A million thank yous”.
